What is driving the E-Commerce growth in Asia-Pacific?

Asia-Pacific remains the largest online retail market in the world in terms of B2C E-Commerce sales. This region accounts for more than a half of global online sales of products and digital content. The regional leaders of E-Commerce sales are China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and India.

M-Commerce is playing a significant role in Asia-Pacific’s E-Commerce world leadership. In most of the countries of the region, the mobile share of B2C E-Commerce sales varies from one-third to one-half. This major trend is projected to maintain its strong dynamics and purchases via mobile apps will remain the main contributors to further B2C E-Commerce growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

What are the drivers to such impressive development of M-Commerce? First, many countries of the Asia-Pacific region have the highest smartphone Internet penetration rates in the world. In some markets such as Thailand, South Korea and Taiwan, almost all Internet users go online via the mobile Internet. Moreover, the highest share of Internet traffic in the region stems from mobile phones. The top market players in the region such as Lazada, Amazon, Alibaba, JD.com, Flipkart, and Rakuten have already noticed the increased mobile share of traffic and transactions.
