Digital River World Payments offers online payment processing and related services. It operates as a subsidiary of Digital River, Inc., a US company providing Commerce-as-a-Service solutions to digital businesses. In February 2015, Digital River was acquired by investors of Siris Capital Group for around USD 840 million. Previous investments by Siris Capital Group included Transaction Network Services, whose Payment Gateway business was acquired by MasterCard for the DataCash payment gateway in 2014. Payment revenues of Digital River have been growing over the past several years, including through the acquisition of Canada-based LML Payment Systems with its Beanstream online and mobile payment business in 2013. Still, last year the payment services division accounted for only a small double-digit percentage share of the parent company’s total revenues.
Digital River World Payments covers online-related segments such as online retail, travel and entertainment, direct selling, online gaming and other online services. Its client list includes known brands such as American Apparel (retail), Expedia (travel), Spotify (online services), NuSkin (direct selling) and others. Online payment services provided by the company range from pure gateway solutions to fully managed payment offerings.
The provider has an international reach, including Europe and Asia, but around half of its multi-billion transaction volume is processed in the Americas. Both international and local online payment methods are on the company’s offering. Digital River World Payments supports major credit and debit cards and global E-Wallets, but also geography-tailored local methods, such as Boleto Bancario and card installments in Brazil, Yandex.Money in Russia, mobile payment solutions in India, over 60 local debit cards and AliPay wallet in China. In Europe, the company partnered with Klarna last year to provide Klarna Invoice as a regional payment method.
