A new publication by Hamburg-based research firm yStats.com “Wirecard Company Profile 2015: Online Payment Services,” reveals the geographic coverage, payment methods offered, as well as recent important news and facts about this payment service provider.
Wirecard is a Germany-based payment service provider offering payment systems, risk management and banking solutions. It offers payment processing based on Internet technologies for online, mobile and point-of-sale channels, as well as payment card issuing. Wirecard has connections to more than 200 international payment networks and supports 120 transaction currencies. The last two years have been marked by stable double-digit growth of the company’s revenue. The payment processing and risk management segment, which is responsible for all electronic payment processing including online payments, accounted for the largest share of this revenue.
In late 2014 and early 2015, Wirecard followed an expansion strategy through a number of acquisitions and partnerships. For example, it acquired Turkish payment company Mikro Ödeme, a provider of mobile payment via SMS and other services to digital businesses. In its home market, Germany, Wirecard partnered with telecommunications company Drillisch for the provision of the host card emulation mobile payment.
Wirecard supports card as well as alternative payment methods of online payment. Across all regions of operations, major credit and debit cards are accepted. Alternative methods vary by country and region and include international as well as local methods. For example, in Latin America, in addition to worldwide alternative methods such as PayPal and Skrill wallet, local methods Boleto Bancario and Mercado Pago are supported.
