Europe is seeing an interesting trend, more and more consumers are using their smartphones to make mobile payments. This according to a new report published by yStats.com, the report covers payment methods in Belarus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Mobile payments
According to yStats.com mobile payments are on the rise, furthermore in-store mobile payments are also getting more and more popular. “For example, in France the number of retail locations accepting such payments reached more than a quarter of a million.”
Germans prefer bank transfer
According to the study, more than half of German online shoppers (56%) paid by bank transfer after the delivery of goods, while 24% paid by bank transfer before delivery. Furthermore, online payment services like PayPal, Sofort Überweisung and Giropay have increased in popularity. Now they are being used by 55% of online shoppers in Germany.
Eastern Europeans prefer cash
The study also found that in Eastern European countries people tend to prefer paying cash upon delivery of the goods. In Poland people mainly used bank transfer to pay for their goods, closely followed by cash.
